Course Information for Students

If you are considering a career in the management and administration sector, then this is the qualification for you.

With a huge focus on vocational skills designed to help you into skilled employment, higher education or an apprenticeship, T Levels in Business are new courses introduced in September 2022.

As an alternative to A-levels, apprenticeships and other 16-19 courses, T Levels are equivalent to three A-levels and include a mix of classroom learning and ‘on-the-job’ in-depth experience via an industry placement of at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days).  This not only gives you valuable work experience but also gives employers an insight into a potential new talent pipeline.

T Levels are based on the same standards as apprenticeships, designed by employers and approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.  You will study over two years and develop the core knowledge and skills that are essential for progressing to a range of management and administration occupations.

As part of this programme, you will participate in tutorial sessions and join our Business Employment and Skills Academy which has outstanding links with – and support from – businesses operating in different sectors.

For more information on T Levels, please visit:

You need to be committed, highly motivated and have an interest in pursuing a career in this subject area. As part of the application process you will need to achieve your GCSE qualifications and have a successful interview.

Entry requirements are 5 GCSE’s grade 4 or above that includes:

  • GSCE Maths Grade 4 or above
  • GCSE English Grade 4 or above
  • 3 x other GCSE’s grade 4 or above

The course will feature a technical qualification which will include:

Year 1

  • Core content, business and commercial awareness, project management, communication, working collaboratively, problem solving, research and reflective practice.  Maths, English and Digital Skills are mapped across the core content.

Year 2 (Specialist pathway)

  • Team Leadership/Management

This course will be delivered on-site at the Roundhouse.

Every T Level will include an industry placement with an employer, focused on developing the practical and technical skills required for the occupation. These will last a minimum of 315 hours (approximately 45 days) but can last longer. Employers can offer  as block release, day release or a mix of these, and can discuss sharing part of the placement with another employer if necessary.

The purchase of appropriate books and e-books is encouraged and guidance on which books to purchase will be given by subject specialists. There may also be a request for contributions to trips and visits as part of our Employment and Skills Academy activities.

Year 1

  • Two externally set exams (Core Paper 1, Core Paper 2) covering knowledge from the Management and Administration core content
  • One externally marked employer-set project covering knowledge and skills from the Management and Administration core content

Year 2

  • One externally set assignment covering content from the occupational specialism – Team Leadership/Management

Students who pass all the elements of their T Level will gain a nationally recognised certificate showing an overall grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction. It will also set out the details of what students have achieved on the course.

The T Level Certificate will include:

  • an overall pass grade for the T Level, shown as Pass, Merit or Distinction
  • a separate grade for the occupational specialism, shown as Pass, Merit or Distinction
  • a separate grade for the core component, using grades A* to E
  • details of the industry placement

Further Study

This course allows for progression to an appropriate Level 4, 5 or 6 Business or Business-related qualification.

A T Level is a nationally recognised qualification that is worth the same number of UCAS points as three A-levels.

Alternatively, and with employment in a qualifying role, progression to a Higher or Degree Apprenticeship in the appropriate specialist pathway could be possible.
